SPEEDOMETER MAY CONVEY AN INCORRECT READING
The possibility exists that an incorrectly specified speedometer drive gear has been fitted to some vehicle transmissions .
Potentially affected vehicles will be recalled to have the speedometer drive gear examined. Affected vehicles will have a correctly calibrated quality assured unit fitted where necessary.
POSSIBLE MALFUNCTION OF BRAKE SYSTEM PROTECTION VALVE
4-Way Circuit Protection Valves have not been cleaned thoroughly during manufacturer. Affected vehicles could suffer a malfunction of the valve if there is a loss of air pressure in any of its circuits.
Recall affected vehicles and replace the circuit protection valve with a quality assured unit.
POTENTIAL FAILURE OF STEERING COLUMN SHAFT CONNECTION
The clamping bolt connecting the upper steering column to the lower steering column might not have the correct clamping force due to the incorrect machining of the shaft clearance hole. In extreme circumstances this could result in disconnection of the shaft and loss of steering control.
Recall the potentially affected vehicles and replace any defective shafts with quality assured units.
THROTTLE PEDAL LINKAGE MAY BREAK
The pivot pin that connects the throttle pedal to the operating linkage may break due to incorrect heat treatment of the pin. This may cause a loss of throttle control.
Recall the affected vehicles and replace the parts concerned with quality assured units.
POSSIBLE FAILURE OF PRIMARY DRIVE GEAR BACK PLATE
Yamaha Motor Co. have identified a potential defect with the back plate of the primary drive gear which may cause it to fail under certain conditions of use. In exceptional circumstances this may cause the engine to lock.
Recall affected machines and replace the primary drive gear with a quality assured unit.
POSSIBLE FUEL LEAK IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT
Due to insufficient clamping pressure of fuel pipe ferrule attaching the flexible hose to the pipe end fitting it is possible that a fuel leak may occur in the engine compartment.
Recall all affected vehicles remove the suspect fuel hoses and fit quality assured replacements.
ENGINE MAY STALL WHILST DRIVING
The engine may stop while driving and can not be restarted. The strength of the inner part of the spill valve on the fuel injection pump is insufficient and may fail as a result of repeated injection pressure. As a result fuel can not be injected into the combustion chambers.
Recall the potentially affected vehicles examine the fuel injection pump and where appropriate replace the spill valves with quality assured units.
LOOSE BUMPER FIXINGS MAY AFFECT STEERING CONTROL
The nuts securing the front underrun protection bumper may not have been tightened sufficiently which could lead to loosening of the fixing bolts and affecting steering control.
Recall affected vehicles remove fixing bolts apply Loctite and retorque to correct figure.
ACCELERATOR PEDAL MAY JAM
Two conditions have been identified that may inhibit the throttle pedal from returning to its normal idle position. 1) The possibility that a loose or incorrectly located floor mat may interfere with the lower edge of the pedal assembly and 2) A potential foul condition between the engine compartment bulkhead insulation material and the throttle cable.
Recall all affected vehicles to fit revised design floor mats and securing system. A revised design quality assured throttle pedal and associated hardware is also being fitted to provide increased clearance between the lower edge of the pedal and the carpet. This recall supersedes R1998/038.
POSSIBLE DEFLATION OF TYRES
Incorrect manufacture of threads on the Schrader valve fitted to Michelin disc brake rims causing possible deflation of the tyres.
Recall all affected vehicles and fit quality assured replacement valves.
POSSIBLE DETACHMENT OF FIFTH WHEEL COUPLING
Fifth wheel trailer coupling may detach from slider mechanism and result in the separation of the trailer from the towing vehicle.
Recall affected vehicles and fit an additional cross member at the rear of the fifth wheel.
BRAKE CHAMBER DRAIN PLUG
Front disc brakes air chamber drain plug was not removed during production. Consequently and condensate may freeze under extremely cold conditions and impair the effectiveness of the brake.
Recall affected vehicles and remove the brake chamber drain plug.
WIRING HARNESS CHAFING
Possibility of starter motor harness fouling on harness support bracket which may lead to damaged wiring and a potential short circuit or breakdown of the vehicle.
Recall affected vehicles examine harness for damage and repair where necessary. Reposition harness clear of obstructions.
SEAT BELT STALK
The front seat belt stalk(s) may fracture as a result of inappropriate stressing.
The affected vehicles are being recalled for replacement of the front seat belts.
DEFECTIVE ROLL OVER VALVE MAY RESULT IN FUEL ODOUR AND LEAKS
On affected vehicles liquid fuel may pass through the fuel tank rollover valve (mounted in the fuel pump module) and fill the evaporative canister. This may result in driveability problems fuel odour and leakage from the canister.
To correct this condition the fuel pump module mounted rollover valve must be replaced.
TYRE MAY BLOW OUT
A manufacturing deficiency may result in sudden failure of the tyre body and rapid deflation which could impair the control of the vehicle.
Recall defective tyres and supply quality assured replacements.
TYRE MAY BLOW OUT
A manufacturing deficiency may result in sudden failure of the tyre body and rapid deflation which could impair the control of the vehicle.
Recall defective tyres and supply quality assured replacements.
POSSIBLE DEFECT IN SEAT BELT RETRACTOR
Possible defect in seat belt retractor mechanism may result in the wearer not being restrained in an accident.
Recall affected vehicles examine all seat belts for being within the affected range fit quality assured replacements where necessary.
1) AIR MASS METER GRID MAY DETACH AND JAM THROTTLE OPEN & FUEL PIPES & 2) METAL BRAKE PIPES MAY CHAFE ON REAR SUBFRAME
1) In isolated cases misfiring after a cold start can cause the air grid in the air mass meter to become detached. In the worse case this could jam the throttle valve causing an increase in engine speed. Fuel pipes may chafe together and/or on fuel filter. 2) Metal brake pipe may be incorrectly positioned and chafe on rear subframe.
Recall affected vehicles and:- 1) Check air mass meter and air grid and install retaining ring in air mass meter. Examine fuel pipes for chafing damage and renew or reposition and secure as appropriate. 2) Examine brake pipe for chafing damage and renew or reposition and secure brake pipe as appropriate.
THE DRIVERS AIR BAG COULD HAVE BEEN UNINTENTIONALLY DEACTIVATED
On certain vehicles were the owner had requested to have the passengers air bag deactivated it is possible that during the deactivation process the drivers air bag could have been deactivated instead of the passengers.
Interrogate the air bag control unit and reconnect the wiring to the drivers air bag
REAR LEFT AND RIGHT SEAT BELT RETRACTOR MOUNTING BRACKETS MAY BE PRONE TO FATIGUE CRACKING
In isolated cases the securing brackets for the rear left and right seat belt retractors may be prone to fatigue cracking. This means that the seat belts for the outer rear seats may not provide the maximum level of protection under extreme conditions.
Fit reinforcement plates at the belt retractors.
BRAKE BOOSTER DIAPHRAGM MAY SPLIT
The brake booster diaphragm on affected vehicles may split or rupture causing a loss of brake power assistance. This can result in increased effort being required at the brake pedal.
Recall the affected range of vehicles examine the power brake booster and replace if necessary.
