    Defect

    During manufacture the steering track rod locking nuts may been tightened to an insufficient torque. As a result the attachment of the track rod may become loose.

    Remedy

    Recalled vehicles will have the track rod locking nuts replaced on both the left and right hand sides.

    TRACK ROD COULD BECOME DETACHED

    Defect

    The dust covers which protect the track rod end ball joints may not seal correctly and allow the ingress of water and dirt. As a result the ball joint can wear and cause excessive play in the steering. In extreme cases the track rod could become detached with the consequence that the directional control of the vehicle will be affected.

    Remedy

    Recalled vehicles will have the track rod ends replaced with modified units.

    It is possible in certain circumstances for a person to trap their arm between the fully open door and a stanchion.

    New longer bolts were fitted during a recall where spacer plates were fitted between the steering arms and their mountings. It is thought that on some vehicles the bolts were not correctly torqued and therefore there is a possibility that they could become loose.

    BATTERY GROUND CABLE MAY SHORT CIRCUIT

    Defect

    The battery positive cable may be in conflict with the starter motor solenoid. If a conflict does develop a short circuit of the battery ground cable will occur. This may result in smoke appearing from under the bonnet or a failure to start with warning lamps illuminated.

    Remedy

    Recalled vehicles will have the distance between the battery positive cable checked and adjusted if the clearance is less than 4mm.
