EXHAUST PIPE COULD FAIL POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN EXCESSIVE NOISE

    Defect

It has been identified that the original fitment exhaust pipe wall at the front of the main muffler is too thin additionally that the weld placement for the metal fitting supports is inappropriate. This may result in the exhaust pipe cracking due to vibration and if continually used in this condition the exhaust could fail resulting in excessive noise.

    Remedy

Recall affected vehicles and check whether the exhaust is original. If this is the case a new exhaust box will be fitted.

WIPER MOTOR MAY FAIL AND OVERHEAT

    Defect

Water may enter the wiper motor via the wiper arm spindle. If the water contains salt it is possible that an electrical short circuit can cause the wiper to fail. In extreme cases the short circuit can result in the wiper assembly overheating. The increased temperature can be high enough to melt the trim components in the area of the motor assembly.

    Remedy

Recalled vehicles will be fitted with a revised cover and sealing grommet which will replace the existing sealing system.

    POSSBILE FAILURE OF SUSPENSION/STEERING

    Defect

It has been established that a significant impact to either front wheel whilst the steering is on full lock can result in deformation of the steering ball joint mounting hole within the steering knuckle. Over time the ball joint can become loose in the knuckle and cause the mounting hole to wear. Continued use of the vehicle in this condition may eventually lead to separation of the ball joint resulting in suspension/steering failure and the potential for an accident.

    Remedy

It is the intention to recall all likely to be affected machines and change the subject steering components. However before this is done Kawasaki will inform owners of the need to check the suspension and steering before riding the machine and comprehensive instructions on how to do this are to be issued. It should be noted that if any free play is found within the steering knuckle the machine should not be ridden until such time as the re-work is carried out.

    LOSS OF STEERING MAY OCCUR

    Defect

It is possible that cracks may occur in the ball joint socket of the lower suspension arm. Which under certain severe driving conditions may cause the ball to separate from the ball joint socket and a loss of steering may occur.

    Remedy

Recalled vehicles will be inspected to ascertain if the lower suspension arm fitted is of the affected type. If this is shown to be the case the part will be changed for a quality assured item.

BRAKE PEDAL MAY REQUIRE MORE EFFORT THAN EXPECTED

    Defect

In isolated cases it is possible for vibrations within the vehicle to in turn vibrate the wiring harness connected to the Sensotronic Brake Control unit. This causes the internal contacts within the unit to suffer abrasion and subsequent resistance increase. The resultant affect is that more effort will be required on the brake pedal to stop the vehicle.

    Remedy

Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and mount an additional bracket to the electrical harness to prevent relative movement.
