STEERING MAY DETACH
It is possible the mountings for the steering mechanism to engine subframe may not have been torqued to the correct specification. If this is the case the issue will be highlighted to the driver by noise or play in the steering. If the driver fails to take action to rectify the issue the steering may detach causing a possible loss of control.
Recall affected vehicles to check the torque of the mountings and if necessay replace the steering mechanism.
CORROSION MAY AFFECT HANDBRAKE PERFORMANCE
As a result of water ingress and attendant corrosion in the rear calipers the parking brake may not hold the vehicle on a hill when normal force has been applied to the parking brake lever.
Recall vehicles likely to be affected to either clean the axle and housing or fit new seals. Where necessary the rear calipers will be replaced.
DAMAGE TO WIRING HARNESS AND POSSIBLE FIRE
It is possible part of the wiring harness for the HDXi Dual Fuel system may become exposed to high temperatures produced by the vehicles high pressure compressed air system. If there is contact with the compressor pipe wiring harness protective sleeve damage will occur. However if there is prolonged contact this could result in a total failure of the harness or in extreme cases a vehicle fire.
Recall affected vehicles to check harness and install a heat shield.
FIRE MAY OCCUR
It is possible moisture or other fluids may enter the drivers window and contaminate the main power window switch. If this occurs and the switch is damaged it could overheat and cause it to melt and/or smoke. If this situation is not identified it could result in a vehicle fire.
Recall all affected vehicles and check the switch. If the switch is not damaged a waterproof cover will be fitted. If the switch is damaged it will be replaced and a waterproof cover will be fitted.
TOW BALL MAY FRACTURE
On Toyota Avensis Previa and Lexus GS fitted with a Toyota or Lexus genuine or Brink branded (only on Avensis) detachable towing hitch the possibility exists that the detachable towing ball in some exceptional cases (under severe mechanical stress) might develop a crack. In a worst case the detachable towing ball might fracture and/or fail.
Lexus/Toyota dealers will replace the detachable towing ball and housing at no cost to vehicle owners.

ENGINE MAY CUT OUT
In some operating conditions hot combustion gases can cause premature erosion of the central electrode. In extreme circumstances this may cause the engine to misfire and run rough. If this is not noticed by the rider/driver and they continue to use the vehicle it could cause the engine to cut out.
Recall all affected spark plugs and replace them.
WHEEL BOLTS MAY BECOME LOOSE
It is possible that the left hand wheel bolts may not have been torqued to the correct specification. This could lead to noise or vibration from the wheels and if not rectified it could result in wheel detachment and loss of control of the vehicle.
Recall affected vehicles to check and if necessary re-torque the wheel bolts.
LOSS OF POWER
These motorcycles have a motor encoder position signal that may drift over the extended use of the motorcycle. Should the encoder signal drift too far it could fall beyond the signal limits expected by the motor controller. This condition could cause the motor controller to shut off resulting in the inadvertent loss of power of the motorcycle.
Recall the machines that are likely to be affected to reprogram the motorcycles motor controller with new firmware and configuration which compensate for the possible drift of the motor encoder position signal to ensure it remains within the limits expected by the controller.
FIRE MAY OCCUR
In very specific riding terrains and conditions i.e. vehicle driven in water (minimum of 310 mm 12 inches deep) containing an significant quantity of floating debris such as grass hay and leaves a significant accumulation of debris may accumulate in a short period of time in the exhaust area. This accumulation could lead to a vehicle fire when the exhaust pipe is hot and the debris are dried.
Recall the machines that are likely to be affected to ascertain the usage and where necessary fit an additional grille. Additionally an addendum to the Owner's Manual will be included in both hard copy and to the on-line downloadable version which explains about the necessity to clean out the debris and how to reach the areas the debris needs cleaning from.

REAR CROSS MEMBER MAY CRACK
Over a period of time a small crack can appear on the rear axle cross member particularly under conditions of repeated maximum suspension travel. The small crack could increase in size and eventually lead to the rear wheel rubbing on the wheel arch.
Replace the rear axle cross member and suspension bump stops.
LOSS OF DRIVE
The drive to the rear wheel may be lost due to chain link plate failure. The failures are due to incorrect heat treatment of the link plates at the supplying factory.
Recall the machines that are likely to be affected to ascertain the manufacturer of the drive chain. If the chain is produced by a certain manufacturer a new chain will be fitted.
INCORRECT WARNING LIGHTS MAY BE DISPLAYED
It is possible that due to an internal issue within the ECU of the Tyre Pressure Management System (TPMS) an incorrect warning to the driver could appear on the instrument panel even when there is not an issue with the tyre pressures on the vehicle. This could cause the driver to panic and take avoiding action when it is not required. In extreme circumstances this could cause a safety risk to the occupants of the vehicle.
Recall affected vehicles to check the ECU. If found to be one of the affected components it will be replaced with a new unit.
ENGINE INSULATION MAY REST ON TURBOCHARGER
The engine bay insulation for right hand drive vehicles equipped with 2.0 l diesel engine (M9R) engine may have insufficient clearance from the turbocharger. In extreme cases this may cause the insulation to smoulder due to the high temperature of the turbocharger.
Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to fit an additional bracket to position the engine bay insulation away from the turbocharger.

SEATBACK MAY NOT ENGAGE CORRECTLY
On affected vehicles the seatback latch may fail to engage correctly resulting in the rear seatback not being positively secured to the body striker.
Dealers will fit a new hog ring securing the strap to the latch mechanism.
