Stellantis recalls 44,000 UK cars over 1.2 mild-hybrid fire risk

RecallClear Editorial

Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 208, Citroën C3, Fiat 600 and more 2023–2026 1.2-litre mild-hybrid models are being called back over an under-bonnet fire risk traced to insufficient clearance between the GPF pipe and the belt starter generator. Fix is free and takes around 30 minutes.

Stellantis is recalling around 44,000 UK cars (and more than 700,000 worldwide) over an under-bonnet fire risk on its 1.2-litre 48V mild-hybrid engine. The campaign spans every Stellantis brand that offers the engine in the UK: Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Jeep, Alfa Romeo and DS.

Affected cars were built between 2023 and 2026. If you bought any of the models below new or used in the last three years, it is worth checking. You can run a £1.99 RecallClear check against the DVSA and SMMT recall registers in a single lookup, or jump to the relevant manufacturer page below.

What is the fault?

Stellantis engineers have traced the issue to the belt starter generator (BSG) on the 48V mild-hybrid system. There is insufficient clearance between the BSG and the gasoline particulate filter (GPF) pipe. Water from rain, puddles or road spray can sit in that gap and trigger electrical arcing (sparks jumping across the components) which can overheat and, in rare cases, ignite under the bonnet.

What does the fix involve?

The dealer fix is free and typically takes around 30 minutes. The work involves replacing the pole protection cap, adding additional insulation around the 48V system, and adjusting the clearance to the GPF pipe so water cannot bridge the gap.

How to check if your car is affected

  • Wait for the letter. Stellantis says it will reach out to affected owners directly. If you are not the original owner, your details may not be on file.
  • VIN-check at the manufacturer. Every Stellantis brand has its own recall lookup page. The model-page links above will take you there in one click.
  • Combined DVSA + SMMT check. A RecallClear lookup queries both UK recall databases against your VRM in one £1.99 request, so you don't have to remember which sub-brand of Stellantis your car belongs to. see an example report.

Safety recalls are always free

UK safety recalls are repaired free of charge regardless of vehicle age, mileage or how many owners the car has had. If you bought a used Stellantis mild-hybrid from a private seller, you are still entitled to the fix. No proof of purchase required, just the VIN.
