Safety recall

A quarter of UK Jaecoo 7s recalled over engine-stall risk

RecallClear Editorial

Jaecoo's first major UK safety recall covers 7,317 petrol Jaecoo 7s (roughly one in four sold in the UK) over an ECU wiring harness clip that wasn't fully engaged in assembly, risking an engine warning light and an unexpected stall.

Jaecoo is recalling 7,317 petrol Jaecoo 7s in the UK (roughly one in four sold here) over an ECU wiring harness clip that was not fully engaged during assembly. Plug-in hybrid models are unaffected. The Chinese brand's first major UK safety recall comes less than two years after it launched in the country.

What is the fault?

The wiring harness clip for the car's electronic control unit (ECU) was not fully engaged during assembly. Over time this can loosen the connection, which can:

  • Trigger the engine warning light on the dashboard.
  • Cause the engine to stall unexpectedly while driving.

What you should do

  • The car is safe to drive in the meantime. The recall does not require you to stop using the vehicle, but you should book the fix as soon as you can.
  • Contact your local Jaecoo dealer if they have not already contacted you.
  • Confirm whether the campaign is flagged against your VRM by running a run a £1.99 RecallClear check.

The fix

Dealers will inspect the harness, secure the fastener correctly and replace the harness if it has been worn through movement. Free of charge. Jaecoo says the issue has already been corrected on the production line, so cars built after the affected window are not at risk.

Buying a used Jaecoo 7?

Because Jaecoo is so new to the UK, almost every car on the used market falls within the affected build window. Run a recall check before you sign the paperwork, and ask the seller whether the fix has already been carried out. The Jaecoo brand page and the broader browse our manufacturer pages for the UK have the data sources we use for each lookup.
