CONNECTIONS ON THE CONTROL ARM TO THE REAR AXLE MAY BECOME LOOSE

    Defect

The rear axle control arms may not have been fitted as intended. In consequence the connections on the control arms concerned may become loose causing unacceptable lateral forces to be applied to the securing bolts. In this situation exact alignment of the wheels can no longer be guaranteed.

    Remedy

Recalled vehicles will have the subject control arms checked for correct alignment and if found not to have been fitted as intended they may require to be replaced.

REAR BRAKE CALIPER RETAINING SCREWS MAY NOT BE TO THE CORRECT TORQUE

    Defect

It is possible that a number of machines have been released from the factory with the securing screws of the rear brake caliper not tightened to the correct torque. Should this situation not be rectified the caliper may would become insecure with the attendant possibility that the rear wheel could lock.

    Remedy

    UNINTENTIONAL DEPLOYMENT OF AIRBAG

    Defect

A possible fault in the microprocessor in the air bag control unit could lead to an uncontrolled setting of the output signals from the control unit immediately after switching on the ignition. In unfavourable conditions this may lead to components of the safety and restraint system being triggered. This fault does not affect the vehicle while the car is being driven.

    Remedy

Recall affected vehicles and replace and code the air bag control unit.

    REAR BRAKES MAY FAIL

    Defect

Under certain harsh conditions it is possible for the inner section of the rear brake hose to rupture. If a rupture occurs it will lead to the brake fluid leaking and the loss of brake effort.

    Remedy

Recall all likely to be affected machines and fit a modified rear brake hose. Additionally correctly fit where necessary the connections at the brake caliper and 180 degree adaptor.

POSSIBLE FLUID LEAK FROM POWER STEERING

    Defect

The threaded unions on the pressure lines for the power steering gear may not have been sufficiently tightened and could leak oil. Leaking oil could cause the power steering system to fail and in extreme cases escaping oil could ignite on hot engine components.

    Remedy

Check union bolts for signs of leakage. If leaks are found at either of the unions the steering gear will be replaced. If no leaks are found the union bolts will be checked for correct torque.

FRONT BRAKE HOSE COULD RUB ON TYRE

    Defect

The securing grommet for the front brake hose onto the suspension strut may become detached. In this situation it is possible that the hose could rub against the inside of the front tyre causing consequential damage to the hose. In extreme cases brake fluid could leak causing loss of braking action on the front axle.

    Remedy

The repair will involve fitting a securing clip to the hose and grommet and checking the hose for damage.
